We can blame others, and we can blame time, but basements grow old for many reasons, and they need help from deteriorating. So, we tore down the old fixtures in my basement, and for fifteen years, that seemed fine.
  I called a respectable contractor once about fixing it up, and they gave me a quote but never came over for an estimate. Years passed by, and my sister used it as storage. Until one day, my washing machine flooded the room. After the refurbishing team came, they found the furnace leaked. The technician had installed a small expansion tank, and the pressure caused it to break and expel water. So, I got a new washing machine, and a larger expansion tank before the abatement team came to remove the old asbestos floor that the furnace installer and toilet installer cracked. The old house had settled, and the flood made the floors impossible to dry completely. My sister had to move her things and the trash-filled five old trash cans. And we had junk that had to be hauled away before installing new floors. After the abatement completed their work, the house inspector declared the house asbestos free.
  The abatement team and the floor installer commented about installing the walls and ceiling before the floors. So, I contacted the contractor I had contacted earlier. And they said they had other business until July and would not send out an estimator. So, I looked for a new contractor. My father used to call his friends, who charged me my week’s salary for a week’s work plus material to fix up my room, but today’s story does not work out like that.
  I contacted Phoenix Construction, and the next day, I received an estimate and description of the work needed to finish the job. Halfway through, we needed to make an addendum to the contract because the floor needed more concrete to level it off. In all, the basement required old framing replacement, new lights, and electrical work needed upgrading, insulation and walls needed mounting, the ceiling needed replacement, the room needed painting, and the floor and doors installed before completing the finishing touches before moving in the furniture and TV.
  My sister had left a Gingerbread man, and I took photographs from beginning to end, telling a story of how the room came together, and everybody was happy. The basement room looks like a room in a new house."
